Jackie Joyner-Kersee Center is a 41,000
square foot facility with 1200-seat
gymnasium, situated on a 37-acre site. The
facility fulfills the largely unmet need for
recreation and sports venues in East St.
Louis and the surrounding area. The Jackie
Joyner-Kersee Center annually hosts hundreds
of events for young athletes and serves as a
prominent regional baseball, football and
basketball venue. In 2003 the facility was
the site of the National Khoury League
opportunities exist for supporting the
maintenance and development of this
facility. Due to the large number of events
held at the Center, parking areas goal to be
repaved and additional parking should be
added. The outdoor playing fields require
fencing, lighting, and additional seating.
Expanded concession and storage facilities
would allow us to better serve the athletes
and fans that visit the Center every weekend
during football and basketball seasons.
Annual maintenance costs for these heavily
used facilities drain Foundation resources.
